Say Yes to More and Reclaim Your Life

In a world where many people are burnt out and overwhelmed, conventional wisdom often suggests that saying “no” more frequently is the key to regaining control of your life. We hear advice about setting boundaries and prioritizing rest. While I agree that these strategies have their place, they may not address the root of the issue.

When coaching individuals who feel overwhelmed, I don’t emphasize saying “no” more often. Instead, I help them identify what truly matters and suggest a counterintuitive approach: say “yes” more – but with intention. This isn’t about adding to your workload but aligning your “yes” with what’s important. Being clear on your key priorities and sources of joy naturally helps eliminate less significant tasks. Instead of micromanaging your tasks or playing whack-a-mole with obligations you’d rather avoid, you’re proactively shaping your schedule around what’s meaningful to you.

Too often, we say “yes” for the wrong reasons—out of guilt, people-pleasing, a desire to be liked, fear of appearing unhelpful, or to avoid hurting feelings. These reactive “yeses” drain our energy and contribute to burnout.

By embracing strategic “yeses,” you’re not just managing your time—you’re reclaiming your life’s direction and rekindling your zest for living.

So, what are you saying “yes” to?
