Your Personal Leadership Scorecard

I do all kinds of assessments and reflection exercises to make sense of myself and my impact. One of my coaches recently introduced a simple tool to gauge various aspects of our lives that contribute to our overall well-being and leadership effectiveness. I found it very powerful so I am sharing it here.

The exercise involves rating yourself on a scale of 1 to 10 across seven key areas:

1. Emotional Energy: How mentally and emotionally charged you feel.

As an example, 1 would be completely drained, 5 is neutral, and 10 is overflowing with enthusiasm and positivity

2. Income: Your satisfaction with your current financial situation and earning potential.

3. Physical Energy: Your body’s vitality and stamina for daily activities and challenges.

4. Consistency: How reliably and consistently you dedicate time and effort to your priorities and goals.

5. Happiness: Your overall sense of contentment and joy in life.

6. Pride in Self: The level of satisfaction and confidence you feel about your achievements and personal growth.

7. Risk/Adventure: Your willingness to step out of your comfort zone and embrace new experiences .

Take a moment to rate yourself in each of these areas.

Notice what stands out or surprises you. Are there areas where you’re scoring higher than you expected? Lower? Now, reflect on the numbers that disappoint you. What do they tell you about your current priorities or challenges? Are there areas where you see opportunities for growth or change?

This exercise isn’t about judgment, or guilt,or comparison, but about awareness. It’s a tool to help you identify areas where you might want to focus your energy for personal and professional growth.

Most of my scores were much higher than I would have thought which surprised me, but there were times in the past 15 years where some of those scores would have been extremely low for me. Again, it isn’t about judgment but reflection. Life ebbs and flows. The key is to see where you are so you can explore what you can do to move those scores to where you want them to be. High scores daily in all categories directly relates to your ability to achieve the goals you have for yourself. They’re all related and they all affect outcomes in all areas.

If you’d like to discuss your scores, I’d love to chat. Feel free to set up a call with me.

Remember, leadership starts with self-awareness. By understanding where we are, we can better chart our course to where we want to be.
